He was a sleek and shiny cat,

With eyes of vibrant green

And fur that was a brilliant black,

No prettier cat was seen.

He belonged to the neighbors and not to us,

But he acted right at home

As all the world he’d love and trust

And over the fences he’d roam.

He gaurds the chicken feed under smiling skies

And walked through the fresh morning dew,

But when ferocious dogs came passing by,

Dear Henry knew just what to do.

One dog got a nip and one got a scratch

While at Henry the dogs pulled and bit.

But even though Henry so bravely fought back,

He still got the worst of it.

And sadly, he died the very next night

From injuries that happened inside.

And while for Henry the neighbors cried,

His ghost still roams at our side.
